IoT and Its Role in Sustainable Pharmaceutical Supply Chains
摘要
The Internet of Things (IoT) is positioned as a revolutionary technology in pharmaceutical supply chains, promising improved sustainability and efficiency. This chapter explores the IoT’s emerging and rapidly evolving impact on pharmaceutical logistics, examining its potential to streamline supply chain operations through real-time tracking, advanced data analytics, and integration with blockchain technology. The integration of the IoT in pharmaceutical supply chains aims to address crucial issues such as preventing counterfeit drugs, monitoring temperatures in cold chains, and optimizing resource management. Several case studies demonstrate the IoT’s practical applications and advantages, including enhanced traceability, reduced operational costs, and improved environmental sustainability. Nevertheless, challenges such as data security, substantial implementation costs, and compliance with regulations need to be addressed to fully harness IoT capabilities. The chapter emphasizes the necessity for continuous innovation and strategic investments in IoT technologies to establish a resilient, transparent, and sustainable pharmaceutical supply chain in the postpandemic era.
