Disaster Resilience in Fiji Through Urban Green Infrastructure: A Review
摘要
Fiji, a South Pacific country, is known for its frequent natural disasters, including cyclones and flooding. This chapter explores the role of Urban Green Infrastructure (UGI) in enhancing disaster resilience in urban areas of Fiji. UGI focuses on strategic planning and development of green spaces, parks, trees, and flora, providing environmental, social, and economic benefits. UGI is emphasized for flood mitigation, cyclone protection, biodiversity promotion, ecosystem services, urban heat island reduction, community space exploitation, economic benefits, public health enhancement, and climate adaptation. The chapter emphasizes the importance of integrated planning, community involvement, regulatory interventions, continuous monitoring, skill development, and resilient landscaping techniques. The chapter asserts that UGI embodies a comprehensive methodology that enhances disaster resilience and sustainability in urban regions. By implementing UGI principles, Fiji has enhanced its capacity to mitigate natural catastrophe impacts and ensures the welfare of its inhabitants in a more unpredictable environment.
