The deoxidation equilibrium between dual and three deoxidizers in the pure iron and actual steels is extensively summarized in the current chapter. Stability diagrams for the complex deoxidation of the liquid steel were calculated, including MgO-Al2O3, Al2O3-TiOx, MgO-TiOx, Al2O3-CaO, SiO2-MnO, Al2O3-SiO2, MgO-Al2O3-CaO, MgO-Al2O3-TiOx, and Al2O3-SiO2-CaO, which could be used to predict the formation of various types of inclusions based on steel composition. Thermodynamics for the formation of manganese sulfide and calcium sulfide was discussed, and stability diagrams of these two sulfides were proposed. Thermodynamics for nitrides was also summarized, including titanium nitride and aluminum nitride.
