This paper explores visitor experience at The Independence Palace in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam through the lens of user-generated content (UGC) on TripAdvisor. The analysis involved an examination of 5,023 online reviews about The Independence Palace between the year 2011 to 2023 on TripAdvisor’s website. Additionally, the analysis counted reviews with one, two, three and four stars as negative, whereas five-star ratings as positive. Utilizing sentiment analysis and topic modelling techniques, the study reveals that architecture is the most salient aspect of the palace, which is consistently praised by visitors for its historical significance and aesthetic appeal. Sentiment analysis results showed that positive sentiments highly dominated the reviews. Conversely, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modelling results highlight the concern about the perceived lack of authenticity and the need for ongoing maintenance and preservation efforts. This is one of the prominent areas that persistently contributed to negative reviews of The Independence Palace experience. This study contributes to the tourism industry by suggesting practical recommendations for improving visitor experience at historical sites.
