Scrape-Off Layer Dynamics

This chapter presents an introduction to the heat and particle exhaust in tokamaks. The equation for the scrape-off layer dynamics are introduced and solved in some limiting cases. The regimes of operation of the divertor are classified. The engineering challenges of the divertor due to the high heat loads are discussed and possible solutions based on advanced divertor concepts or high core radiation are briefly reviewed.
