Managing Symptoms in Pediatric Palliative Care
摘要
This section aims to provide a concise overview of the symptom management techniques employed in children with varying age group suffering from incurable diseases, as well as to offer a brief perspective on the primary challenges encountered by their families. The symptom management in children getting palliative care necessitates a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that no child or young person is left to manage their symptoms on their own. This approach guarantees that there is continuous input and advice from the patient’s multidisciplinary team. The most common symptoms experienced by children and young individuals, comparable to those in adults, include pain, agitation and restlessness, seizures, myoclonus, nausea and vomiting, excessive secretions, breathing difficulties, constipation, itching, and pressure ulcers, among others (Wolfe et al. N Engl J Med. 342(5): 326–33, 2000).
