Principles of Palliative Care

The history of palliative care goes back many years. In the past, palliative care was only considered to relieve pain and focused on patient, but today, palliative care includes various dimensions including psychological, physical, spiritual, and social support for the patient and family. In this chapter, topics such as the history of palliative care, old and new perspectives on palliative care, level of palliative care, and structure and models of palliative care will be discussed.
