This study examines the potential impact of increasing customs taxes on income levels in Uzbekistan, with a specific focus on maintaining economic stability. The analysis explores diverse economic indicators and their association with customs duties, aiming to offer policymakers relevant insights. The study used autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models to examine the interaction among customs duties, economic indicators, and national income. The data used is taken from the State Committee of Statistics of Uzbekistan and the Customs Committee of Uzbekistan, covering the period from 2014 to 2023. Important factors to consider are customs duties, customs valuation, import volumes, general benefits, and exchange rates. The robustness of the conclusions is strengthened by econometric analysis, which includes unit root and cointegration tests. The findings of the ARDL model indicate that higher customs valuation and import quantities have a favorable impact on customs revenue, however, an increase in general benefits leads to a decrease in customs income. Customs revenues are greatly affected by movements in the exchange rate. The findings emphasize that accurately set customs duties can increase the overall national income while maintaining economic stability. The analysis highlights the significance of aligning tariff rates to maximize income while avoiding too restrictive policies that may impede trade. The complex relationship between economic indicators and customs duties highlights the necessity for flexible tariff regimes. The findings support the implementation of a comprehensive tariff strategy that takes into account both immediate and long-term economic consequences. Efficiently optimizing customs and tariff policy is essential for maximizing national income and ensuring economic stability. Policymakers are advised to utilize these observations in order to develop efficient tariff plans that boost revenue generation and promote sustainable economic growth. Subsequent research should investigate the influence of worldwide economic circumstances on customs revenues and expand the examination to include other emerging nations.
