Sigfox is one of the Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWANs) that requires strategic network planning. The main focus of the study is to investigate the suitability of Sigfox technology for LPWANs deployment in Asia especially in Malaysia. The study aims to analyse the performance of empirical path loss models including Okumura-Hata, Ericsson, 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), and COST 231 models within an urban area. 920 MHz operating frequency is considered for 10 m and 50 m of base station antenna heights. In this study, base station antenna height is one of the crucial parameter in designing an efficient cellular network. The simulation outcomes indicate that Ericsson model is a suitable choice for network planning in urban areas.

摘要
