Transforming Healthcare Through Smart Health Systems: Harnessing Technology for Enhanced Patient Care

Smart healthcare enhances medical service provision by integrating advanced technologies and intelligent systems within the healthcare sector. This chapter provides an overview of the concept of smart healthcare and its potential benefits by incorporating artificial intelligenceArtificial intelligence, machine learningMachine learning, and internet of things in early detection and diagnosis of various diseases. The advent of smart healthcare has transformed the landscape of healthcare delivery, allowing for enhanced patient care, tailored medical treatments, and streamlined healthcare administration. Leveraging cutting-edge AI algorithms, healthcare professionals can now achieve unparalleled precision in disease diagnosis through the comprehensive analysis of medical images and clinical data. This not only serves to minimize diagnosticAI diagnostics inaccuracies but also significantly enhances treatment outcomes, ensuring patients receive the most effective care tailored to their specific needs. In addition to these sophisticated advancements, the realm of smart healthcare encompasses an array of wearable devices and mobile applications. In this chapter, we discuss smart healthcare systems used in various applications namely the prediction of Alzheimer’s disease at various stages, the prediction of the behavior of patients with mental illness, analysis of the health condition of premature babies in smart NICU, applications of AI and ML in hearing aids and in discerning speech of people with speech difficulty. For each application, the conventional methods in diagnosing the disease and the existing methods using advanced technology are discussed. The challenges and the future directions are discussed at the end of the chapter.
