Current Standards in Therapeutic Management
摘要
Managing MASLD poses a challenge for health care providers due to its strong link with unhealthy lifestyles and the lack of pharmaceutical treatment options. Therefore, MASLD requires a personalized therapeutic approach rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. Lifestyle modifications, including weight loss, dietary adjustments, exercise, remain the cornerstone of treatment, but adherence to these interventions is notoriously difficult. Ongoing research is exploring the potential benefits of pharmacological medications, most of which that are approved for different indications. Some drugs have demonstrated promise in reducing hepatic steatosis and even fibrosis, include Resmetirom, vitamin E, GLP-1 receptor agonists, and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors. Additionally, bariatric surgery has emerged as a viable option for patients who do not respond adequately to conservative measures, offering substantial weight loss and improvements in metabolic complications. Collaborative care models involving a multidisciplinary team of specialists are essential for optimizing treatment outcomes and empowering patients along their therapeutic journey.
