Histopathology of MASLD: Insights into Liver Tissue Changes
摘要
Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) has been shaped by the lesions described on a liver biopsy, which continues to be an important tool in the management of patients with MASLD. Given the risk, logistical needs and required expertise, it is a tool for management in secondary and tertiary care, drug development and research, that continues to fundamentally contribute to our understanding of the disease and its management. Whilst for some aspects of diagnosis, treatment and monitoring, its place in the algorithm evolves and non-invasive tests can be used, the comprehensiveness of the information it provides, the newest techniques and the advent of AI continue to put the liver biopsy at the centre of the armamentarium we have to tackle MASLD both in research and in clinical practice.
