摘要

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a recent nomenclature that associates nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) with a condition of systemic metabolic dysfunction. The pathogenesis of MASLD is influenced by several risk factors, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, insulin resistance, a dysbiosis of the gut microbiota, and genetic and environmental factors. Due to its multifactorial nature, it is known as “multiple-hit” disease. The aim of this chapter is to explore the different pathogenetic ways that are involved in MASLD development.
