Transforming Buildings Emission-Free for Sustainable Development: A Case Study

The rising population and its impact on the environment are big challenges that need to be addressed as a first priority. The rising population and activities for economic growth are causing threats to the ecosystem of this planet. The United Nations has envisaged policies for sustainable development and the goals set for the health of the planet are better known as Sustainable Development Goals. This chapter discusses the need of reducing carbon emission in every activity and the methods to reduce the emission. The building sector takes fourth position while considering global sector wise emissions. A case study is presented in the later part of the chapter to assess the carbon emission by buildings due to energy consumption. The possible/available methods to mitigate emissions thereby making the building emission-free are also discussed.
