Introduction: Keywords of Rural China

In the stages of revolution and collectivization that rural contemporary China has experienced, the Communist Party of China has reformed the countryside, agriculture and farmers, and formed a series of policies and discourses with Chinese characteristics. “Policy changes the countryside, discourse changes the farmers” has become the decisive factor shaping the contemporary Chinese rural form. In order to better understand the political changes in contemporary rural China, this book establishes a comprehensive analytical framework on the basis of Foucault’s discourse theory and analyzes some typical policy discourses in the period of contemporary Chinese rural revolution and collectivization from the perspectives of discourse, state, peasants, and history, providing readers with a comprehensive understanding.
