This chapter first ensures that readers understand the basic requirements for spreadsheet calculations and the concepts of sound level, sound power and directionality that will be used throughout the book. It then introduces “Sabine” and “Schultz” rooms, and shows how to calculate the sound pressure level (SPL) in each of these rooms due to a source with a known sound power level (SWL). It also indicates how to calculate SWL from a measured value of SPL.
