Faculty Development for Academic Career Development
摘要
The provision of support for the academic career development of faculty members is key to the success of both the individual faculty member and the institutions in which they work. Career development begins during the transition from postgraduate or graduate training to faculty appointment, and it continues to retirement. This chapter will outline how faculty development can support the establishment of programs and processes that provide clear guidelines for faculty with respect to the knowledge and skills required to enable them to meet the expectations of their academic faculty roles. Included in these activities are programs that promote faculty members’ skills in the development of career goals, identification of learning needs, and documentation of academic achievements that align with institutional values. Strategies include mentoring, coaching, self-assessment and reflection, and leadership development.
