Starting and Sustaining a Faculty Development Program
摘要
The goal of this chapter is to outline an approach for starting a faculty development program, in a single departmentally based program addressing a focused faculty development issue, a hospital-based program, a specialty society or college, or a faculty-wide program in a small or large school, at a national or international level. Guided by change, social, and activity theories, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, the authors describe the steps and processes required to create a faculty development program, whether it is in-person or online. Core start-up issues, such as forming a planning committee, conducting an environmental scan and needs assessment, describing the purpose, goals, and objectives of the program, and establishing a curriculum, are explored in detail, as well as delivery methods, evaluation strategies, ways to initiate program scholarship, train faculty developers, ensure sustainability, secure infrastructure funding and staffing, and market the program.
