This study explores the ethical imperative of the energy transition (ET) at the enterprise level to combat climate change and the scarcity of fossil fuels. Employing a comprehensive literature review, it examines critical factors driving ET and reconfiguring business models toward sustainability. The paper begins by discussing the role of energy in the digital age, emphasizing the importance of transparent energy policies for achieving energy sovereignty. It then addresses the primary factors influencing energy market dynamics, positioning sustainability as a categorical imperative, and presenting emerging sustainable business models. Technological, financial, political, and social challenges of transitioning to a zero-carbon energy matrix are also examined. The ethical implications of reconfiguring the energy matrix on a business scale are highlighted, stressing the necessity for businesses to prioritize long-term environmental stewardship over immediate economic gains. This review aims to contribute to the ongoing discourse on sustainable energy practices and the critical role of businesses in achieving a low-carbon future.
