Diabetic Neuropathy: A Pandora Box in Pulmonary Diseases

Diabetes is a severe chronic disease affecting almost every organ of our body. Depending on the duration of uncontrolled diabetes, early manifestation of associated complications become evident with damage to body organs including microvascular complications like neuropathy. Lung diseases severity or management of various lung problems become difficult in the absence of adequate glycemic control and manifest as failure of treatment for tuberculosis, chest neuropathic pain, exacerbations of infections in COPD and bronchial asthma, radiation pneumonitis in lung cancer, and so on. This chapter highlights the involvement of various lung diseases in diabetic patients and role of physical and pulmonary rehabilitation besides adequate pharmacotherapy for treating these lung diseases.
