Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
摘要
DPN or diabetic peripheral neuropathy, a progressive condition, is commonly caused by diabetes mellitus. It results in unpleasant and costly clinical consequences such as neuropathic pain (painful DPN), foot ulceration, and leg amputation. Unfortunately, DPN is sometimes only discovered after permanent nerve damage has already taken place, and its initial manifestation may be a diabetic foot ulcer. Several innovative methods of diagnosis may improve clinical evaluation and assist in DPN early detection. There aren’t many available treatments for DPN and painful DPN. Strong evidence indicates that people with type 1 diabetes who strictly control their blood sugar are less likely to develop DPN. However, symptomatic treatments are frequently insufficient and neither glucose management nor pathogenetic therapies work in painful DPN. Recently, it has been proposed that by stratifying patients based on certain patient characteristics, it may be feasible to better manage their pain. Recent studies have shown significant advancements in innovative methods for managing uncomfortable DPN as well as diagnostic methods that could be useful for identifying DPN early in a medical or academic setting.
