Tourism, a thriving global industry encompassing leisure and business travel, generates substantial economic revenue annually. India, a significant player in this sector, welcomed 6.19 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in 2022, marking a resurgence post-pandemic. Despite these promising statistics, the tourism industry faces persistent challenges, notably in the realm of service provision. The Ministry of Tourism’s report reveals a stark imbalance: a mere 3227 tourist guides serving a burgeoning demand. This supply–demand gap underscores the need for innovative solutions. While the government strives to rapidly develop the tourism sector, there remains a palpable shortfall in tourist services. Compounding this issue, tourist guides often face repetitive assignments, and language barriers persist for overseas visitors. These challenges can be effectively addressed through the application of Augmented Reality (AR) technology. With the ubiquitous presence of smartphones, AR offers a groundbreaking solution. Our research paper addresses this critical gap by introducing an AR-based mobile application designed to serve as a personal tourist guide. This innovative app aims to bridge the divide between tourists and guides, enhancing the overall travel experience. In conclusion, this research paper underscores the transformative potential of AR in tourism, as it simultaneously enriches the tourist experience and alleviates the challenges faced by guides. It showcases the convergence of technology and tourism, opening new horizons for the industry’s growth and development.
