Motivation and Technology

摘要

Motivation is a multifaceted construct that has intrigued scholars and practitioners for centuries. As technology continues to evolve and permeate every aspect of our lives, its impact on motivation warrants a thorough examination. The advent of technology has revolutionized the way we approach and understand motivation. In education, technology has transformed traditional pedagogical methods, providing new tools and platforms that improve student engagement and learning outcomes. Digital learning environments, online courses, and interactive software have introduced new ways of motivating students. For example, gamification, the integration of game mechanics into learning activities, has shown great promise in increasing student motivation (Alsawaier, 2018). By incorporating elements such as points, badges, and leaderboards, gamified learning platforms can make educational activities more fun and rewarding, thereby increasing intrinsic motivation. Research has shown that gamification not only increases student engagement but also fosters a sense of achievement and progress, which are critical components of intrinsic motivation (Garcia-Lopez & Acosta-Gonzaga, 2023). Studies in this section consider the complex relationship between motivation and technology, exploring how technological advances influence intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in a variety of settings, including education, workplace productivity, and personal development.
