Scenarios are stories about people and their activities situated in the future. As scenario creation gains prominence in different disciplines, including design education, there has been a growing uncertainty about its nature and methodologies. A scoping review is conducted to address this gap. The objective of this paper is to understand the major classifications of scenario building at the intersection of future studies and design. It also aims to identify commonalities across contexts, along with contested areas. The study finds a lack of clarity on the process of scenario generation in which the creation and communication parts of scenarios are mixed up. The majority of the studies still use textual narratives for communicating scenarios. To address these gaps, the paper suggests a scenario canvas using components iterated from the literature. The paper contributes to the foundational understanding and practices of scenario development in the context of future studies, design practice, and design education.

摘要
