摘要

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into undergraduate design education has become increasingly prevalent, sparking both excitement and concern among students in design programs. This research paper presents a comprehensive study based on a survey conducted among 125 college students enrolled in various design specializations, aiming to understand the profound influence of AI on their educational experiences. The survey explores students’ encounters, challenges, and perceptions regarding the collaboration between AI and design in the academic context. The study unveils that a significant proportion of participants have actively engaged with AI-powered design tools in their coursework. Their experiences demonstrate a nuanced relationship with AI, with many students recognizing its potential to enhance efficiency while raising questions about its impact on creativity and ethical considerations. Participants report varying levels of proficiency with AI tools, underscoring the diversity in attitudes toward AI’s role in the creative process across design disciplines. Ethical concerns, encompassing issues such as algorithmic bias and the potential displacement of human designers, emerge as recurring themes, emphasizing the importance of integrating ethical awareness into design education. Moreover, the research elucidates students’ preferences for learning about AI, highlighting the significance of a multifaceted approach that includes in-class instruction, online resources, workshops, and collaborative projects. The paper also investigates overall satisfaction levels with the integration of AI in design education, shedding light on areas where institutions can enhance their AI-related offerings. This research contributes invaluable insights into the evolving landscape of undergraduate design education in the era of AI. It serves as a resource for educators, institutions, and policymakers seeking to adapt and optimize design education to align with the transformative influence of AI. Ultimately, it reinforces the need for a balanced approach that harnesses AI’s capabilities while nurturing the creativity and ethical consciousness of future design professionals.
