Colour-Coding Student Self-Evaluation Method for Consequential Creative Learning

  • Kislaya Choudhary

摘要

Self-evaluation is a useful strategy for creative assignments and consequential learning. It enables a learner to assess creative projects at certain stages in order to gain a deeper understanding and determine the scope of improvement. It is a useful tool for ensuring high-quality output and adherence to the design brief. In order to ensure the focused yet innovative delivery of a student’s creative project, it is important to use an engaging self-assessment tool. The rubric tool is useful to develop a broad outline for assessment and to provide an engaging system to streamline the learning experience. It helps keep the work progress and feedback system inclusive and builds a constructive environment for improvement (Levi and Stevens 2005). In the classroom, the self-evaluation process was carried out through the development of a Preview of Design setup and the real-time feedback process. Based on the concepts of the Rubric (tool), the colour-code grid pattern evaluation system was introduced in the classroom. This study includes a complete account of the activity, which was carried out over three consecutive academic semesters. The research is intended to create an engaging environment for self-evaluation to enhance the creative progression of projects and assignments in the classroom. This idea introduces the self-assessment concept to students as a primary-level informal experience before undergoing the formal assessment. Due to the fact that design students prefer working with colour and visuals over words and statistics, the trial focused on employing colour as an indicating tool. In order to encourage students to reflect on qualitative aspects, the project aims to present a framework for an informal self-evaluation approach for classroom activities.
