This chapter reaffirms the value of examining grandchildhood through the practice approach, defining it as ‘what grandchildren do’. This perspective highlights grandchildhood as a dynamic and active role characterized by everyday, relational, regular, and fluid practices. While these activities might seem trivial or overlooked individually, they acquire deeper significance when aggregated under the concept of ‘grandchildhood’. The chapter addresses three interrelated issues to provide a broader understanding of grandchild practices. First, it explores the interplay of macro-, mezzo-, and micro-level factors, illustrating how sociocultural, familial, and individual elements intersect to shape grandchildhood. Second, it frames grandchildhood as a life project, emphasizing its relevance throughout the entire life course rather than being restricted to childhood alone. Third, it examines the notion of ‘good grandchildhood’, focusing on the expectations, obligations, and norms that define what constitutes meaningful grandchild practices. This analysis underscores the complexity and multifaceted nature of grandchildhood, demonstrating how these everyday practices are intricately woven into larger sociocultural and familial contexts.
