Floods stand out as a predominant and recurrent natural catastrophe, renowned for their devastating impact on a global scale. In India, around 12% of the total geographical area is prone to flooding. Therefore, it is crucial to study floods and develop safety measures to mitigate their impact. Flood routing constitutes an essential to flood mitigation. A complex phenomenon of unsteady and non-uniform flow in a river channel is the movement of flood waves. For flood planning and mitigation in a watershed, integrating GIS technology with flood models can be beneficial flooding encounters in the lower Tapti Basin, which is situated downstream of the Ukai dam. The lower Tapti Basin's flood flow is evaluated in this study using an integration of HEC-RAS as well as ArcGIS. A flood model (for the flood years 2002 and 2006) of the basin is produced using an array of data sources, including hydrological and DEM data. The outcomes of this study will provide vital knowledge to those managing floods in the lower Tapti Basin, enabling the development of measures that will effectively reduce the threat of flooding in the area. The simulated and observed stage hydrographs are compared over the years in the present work, and it is found that, to a certain extent, the simulated stage hydrograph closely matched the observed stage hydrograph. Altogether, this study highlights how the flood analysis approach used in river systems is general and may be adjusted to similar situations. Such versatility holds the potential to offer valuable insights for informed decision-making in forthcoming developmental endeavors.
