Stilling basins are used for energy dissipation, in classical basins, the side walls are kept parallel up to the end of the hydraulic jump and transitions are provided to connect the basin with the normal section. The author developed a new basin where the side walls are diverging reducing the basin cost. The jump is of spatial type. With a level bed, the flow separates from the wall resulting in a highly non-uniform distribution of velocity at the exit. By tilting the basin floor the jump was stabilized. To reduce the cost further, offsets were provided at entry. The paper discusses the experimental results obtained.

摘要

Stilling basins are used for energy dissipation, in classical basins, the side walls are kept parallel up to the end of the hydraulic jump and transitions are provided to connect the basin with the normal section. The author developed a new basin where the side walls are diverging reducing the basin cost. The jump is of spatial type. With a level bed, the flow separates from the wall resulting in a highly non-uniform distribution of velocity at the exit. By tilting the basin floor the jump was stabilized. To reduce the cost further, offsets were provided at entry. The paper discusses the experimental results obtained.
