Differential Diagnosis

It is necessary to distinguish hydrocephalus as a representative disease that causes cranial deformation accompanied by rapid head circumference enlargement. Hydrocephalus is difficult to definitively diagnose by measuring the head circumference at a single point in time. If the patient deviates significantly from the growth curve of the head circumference over time, the tension of the fontanelle is higher than normal and is accompanied by moodiness, which may lead to psychomotor development disorder, requiring diagnosis. However, until infancy, head circumference enlargement compensates for intracranial hypertension. Therefore, it is sometimes noticed in episodes such as “It became difficult to pass their head through when wearing clothes” and “Their hat became tighter in an abnormally short time, and they can’t wear it anymore.”
