Origins of Imperial Examination

Any important system has its roots in ideology and culture at the very start of founding. With a long history, imperial examination (Keju) in the narrow sense based on the establishment of Jinshi subject was originated from the Sui Dynasty. While the one in the broad sense was traced back to the Han Dynasty, and could even be dated from Xiangjulixuan (the county talent selection) in pre-Qin period.
