This case study documented how the initiative to preserve ikat weaving eventually became means to empower women weavers across villages of the Sikka Regency and an estimate of over 1200 women weavers. The Lepo Lorun Women Weavers Cooperative has confronted the challenge of preserving their cultural heritage and tradition and how to make it a sustainable occupation for women weavers in the face of commercial textile production. Moreover, the case study documented how weaving has become a “socialization” activity and community building.
