Cases of gender-based violence (GBV) that is on the rise across Vietnam, that traverses national boundaries, have propelled the women’s movement in this country to create their own initiative that actively responds to the needs of women in this very critical situation. On the other hand, Vietnam has a state obligation to promote and protect the rights of women as signatory to international human rights treaties and conventions. In 2007, the women’s movement in Vietnam promptly responded to the call to help these women during the time when there was no safe space yet for them to take shelter and get comprehensive assistance. The Peace House Shelter was established when there was also a significant gap for providing holistic support for the trafficked women.
