Indigenous Peoples have a long history of struggle in asserting their right to ancestral domain and self-determination. These challenges deepened their commitment to uphold and protect their culture and rights to ancestral lands. Community organizing has played a crucial role in advocating for and securing these rights. This enabled them to utilize democratic spaces in sharing native knowledge, enhance their skills and build strategic alliances. The Ayta Mag-Indi of Porac, Pampanga, highlighted the role of women organizing in strengthening their community to rise above challenges. The women leaders of Ayta Mag-Indi shared their journey in advancing women’s rights and how this has contributed to the broader struggle of the entire Ayta community; from addressing the cases of violence against women in their community to revitalizing the role of women in community governance. Their strength rooted on Indigenous knowledge, system and practice, in their way of doing, reflected in their communal way of life, grounded on collective values and social solidarity.
