摘要
This chapter examines the Turkish textile and clothing (T&C) industry's perspective on sustainability and its journey toward a Circular Economy (CE). Currently, the industry makes a significant contribution to the manufacturing sector as a whole in the country, as well as to the general economy in terms of employment and trade. The findings indicate the high resource dependence and considerable environmental impacts of the sector. Using company-level data, the chapter concludes that CE actions are predominantly integrated into company sustainability policies. Company reports show that there is a limited number of companies that follow a roadmap that implements the best available technology in the value chain for a fully circular transition. However, notable efforts can be observed in corporate documents, especially those incorporating thorough disclosures on sustainability and corporate social responsibility. The results highlight the need for improved collaboration among the stakeholders and for a strengthened ambition in the sector toward a sustainable CE business model. Limitations evident in the chapter highlight the need for further research and national and industry-specific analyses that investigate both the possibilities and deficiencies within the industry concerning sustainability, circularity, and digital transformation.
