The practice of polygamy is legislated and enforced differently in each state in Malaysia. Therefore, the decisions at the state level inevitably determine the degree to which the rights and responsibilities of parties to such relationships are being defended and enforced. This chapter investigates how Islamic law regulates Muslim polygamous relationships in Malaysia. It also discusses substantive and procedural issues in the Islamic family law statutes in Malaysia in providing just legal interventions to parties in such marriage.
