Nanoclays in Food Packaging
摘要
This chapter explores the pivotal role of nanoclays in modern food packing in response to the growing demand for minimally processed and safe food products. Nanoclays, when integrated into packing materials, enhance thermal, mechanical, and barrier properties, making them valuable for preserving food quality. They exhibit versatility by enabling controlled ingredient release, functioning as antimicrobial agents, and facilitating colorimetric indicators for food safety. Crucially, safety concerns are addressed through migration studies, affirming their compliance with safety regulations. Notably, nanoclays-based active films and coatings prove highly effective for high-moisture content foods, prolonging shelf life and preventing spoilage. In a world increasingly prioritizing sustainable practices, nanoclays emerge as contenders in the future of food packaging. This chapter offers a concise overview of their applications, underscoring their potential to revolutionize food preparation, safety, and sustainability.
