Preparation of Ceramics: Different Approaches
摘要
Ceramics were the most prominent materials, holding higher strength and electrical resistivity even under elevated temperatures. Ceramics, with their unique combination of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties, find applications across numerous industries, ranging from traditional pottery to cutting-edge electronic devices. Ceramics are in worldwide need due to their versatility and potential use in many other industries, including electronics, medicine, space, sports, etc. Numerous ceramic substances and preparation techniques are available and tailored for certain applications. The properties, including corrosion resistance, remarkable optical and electrical characteristics, hardness, and anti-aging, are influenced by material selection, preparation methods, and processing conditions. The preparation of ceramics for various applications includes selecting raw materials, mixing with binder materials, forming, applying heat, sintering, firing, and final processing. Due to their resistance to oxidation, ceramics were used in moist environments. The strength of ceramics was due to the covalent or ionic bonding between their atoms. This chapter deals with the preparation of ceramic materials using various approaches, encompassing traditional techniques such as slip casting, Tape casting, and sintering, as well as contemporary methods like sol–gel synthesis, micro stereolithography, and 3D printing based on electrical, magnetic, optical, and structural applications.
