The role of tissue biopsies has changed with the wide availability of genetic tests. Methods of tissue evaluation have also improved considerably and histology, histochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and electron microscopy can provide a variety of information as regards the pathology and pathophysiology of the disease processes. The tissues can also be used for tissue genetics, which can be more informative than genetics performed on the leukocytes.
