Progressive Muscular Atrophy

Progressive muscular atrophy is a chronic, sporadic, slowly progressive degeneration of the anterior horn cells and cranial nerve nuclei. It differs from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in that there are no pyramidal signs. However, it has links and overlaps with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The condition needs to be considered in the wide differential diagnosis of diseases affecting the lower motor neuron. Therapy is largely supportive.
