Safety and Communication

  • Yoshiaki Oka

摘要

This chapter analyzes the evacuation and health effects caused by the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and considers the lessons of nuclear disaster prevention measures and crisis management. It introduces the experiences and key points of science communication and stakeholder dialogue in the UK. It discusses risk perception and psychology and considers communication about risk and safety. The safety mainly dealt with in this chapter is the safety at the interface between nuclear power generation and society, that is, the safety related to disaster prevention and emergency response when radioactive materials are released into the environment in the event of a reactor accident. It is not about the safety related to the prevention of accidents or the reduction of radioactive material release that the majority of nuclear safety researchers and engineers are working on.
