PMV in Resource-Poor Settings

Prolonged mechanical ventilation in children is increasing due to improvement in critical care, leading to important complications. An increasing number of pediatric patients also receive long-term mechanical ventilation at home, which requires specialized staff and costly devices. This chapter describes the issues involved in taking care of children in prolonged mechanical ventilation in low- and middle-income countries.
