Covid-19 and the Multiplicity of Losses: Fears, Grief, and Loneliness
摘要
The Covid-19 pandemic has wrought significant and multifaceted losses among older adults, profoundly impacting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This chapter explores the dominant themes of loss and grief through detailed narratives, capturing the disruption of daily routines, financial and economic hardships, heightened health anxieties, and a pervasive sense of mortality. The chapter also delves into the emotional toll of loneliness, the loss of community and togetherness, and the spiritual questioning brought on by restricted access to religious practices. Additionally, it addresses the altered rituals of death and mourning that have left many older adults grappling with unresolved grief. By documenting these experiences, the chapter highlights the urgent need for comprehensive support systems to address both immediate and long-term impacts of the pandemic.
