Introduction and Review of Literature—Intersections of Covid-19 and Older Adults in India

Covid-19 has had a profound and far-reaching impact on life, affecting society globally. Older adults, despite being among the most vulnerable to the virus, are often neglected in discussions and policy responses, exacerbating disparities and highlighting the need for more inclusive approaches to pandemic management. This chapter examines some of the literature available that examines the impact of the pandemic in myriad domains of participants’ lives: daily life, physical and psychological health, economic activity, and social life. Intersectionality combined with the ecological and narrative approaches as frameworks help examine how the Covid-19 pandemic uniquely affects older adults in India across diverse demographics, including age, gender, disability, socio-economic status (SES), civil status, and beyond.
