History of Sport Fishing in India

Sport fishing has a long and illustrious history in India and can be traced back to ancient Greek and Egyptian writings, as well as the writings of Aristotle and Plato. The origins of sport fishing as a recreational activity are unclear, but it probably gained popularity in England after the Norman conquest in 1066. In India, the sport began during the British colonial era when anglers from all over the world came to fish for highly sought-after species like the mighty mahseer.
