An Innovative Image Enhancement Algorithm for Color Filter Array Images: A Novel Approach

The primary goal of this study is to investigate and develop a novel approach for enhancing predicted images derived from a single-Color Filter Array (CFA) camera image. To predict missing values in the color filter array, the study employs linear and bilinear interpolation methods for predicting green channel values. For predicting missing values in the red and blue channels, the study utilizes weighted bilinear and spline interpolation methods with reference to edge details in the green channel. Median filters are employed for noise removal. The research establishes the proposed approach as the effective method when compared to recent related works. The algorithm significantly enhances the reconstructed true-color image, with an average color peak of the signal-to-noise ratio of 34.99 dB and an average color mean square error of 20.98. This dual consideration contributes to the success of the proposed algorithm in achieving better image enhancement results.
