Reliability-Centered Maintenance Model for Circuit Breakers of Filter Group in HVDC Converter Station

Circuit breakers of filter group in converter station operate more frequently, leading to a higher failure rate. In order to improve their reliability, a reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) model of filter group circuit breakers is established. Based on the fault characteristics of filter group circuit breakers, the requirements of equipment maintenance item involving arc chamber are obtained. The optimization model of the RCM strategy of the filter group circuit breakers is established to minimize the total maintenance cost of the equipment, and the benefit of adding the maintenance item is calculated. Finally, based on the collected field data of a specific type of filter group circuit breaker, it is calculated that the best benefit is to carry out the maintenance item involving arc chamber when the filter group circuit breaker is operated over certain times. The proposed RCM optimization method for circuit breakers of filter group can support for making their optimized maintenance strategy in the future.
