Research on Pattern Design of Metal Foil Resistors

As one of the core components in high-precision electronic components, the distribution parameter magnitude of metal foil resistors determines their resistance accuracy, and the magnitude of resistance value determines their usage conditions. The shape of the metal foil pattern has a significant impact on its distribution parameters and resistance value. Therefore, based on the goals of reducing distribution parameter and increasing resistance value, this article proposes metal foil pattern design ideas from two aspects: detailed design and overall design, and forms initial patterns. Furthermore, considering that the numerical magnitude of physics quantities such as current density, electric field strength, stress, and temperature within the resistor body can affect the service life of metal foil resistors, and the larger values of these physical quantities often occur at the corners of the pattern, improvements were made to the corner shape of the initial pattern, and the numerical magnitude of the four physical quantities were simulated using finite element method. Based on the numerical magnitude of the four physical quantities and economy, it was concluded that right angle shape should be used for corner shape in pattern design. The above design ideas can provide certain reference value for the pattern design of metal foil resistors.
