Traditionally, the commercial supply of natural compounds has been met through harvesting wild plant resources, cultivating specific materials, chemical synthesis, and utilizing endophytes. However, these methods often present inherent challenges, especially for certain valuable compounds. As a sustainable alternative, researchers have explored plant cell, tissue, and organ cultures for commercialization. However, this biotechnological approach is promising, it is not without its challenges. Addressing these issues through a focused approach can provide significant opportunities for the stable and continuous supply of high-value, low-volume compounds. This chapter emphasizes the strategies for the commercial production of secondary metabolites, highlighting success stories and discussing the associated challenges and opportunities. Plant cell, tissue, and organ cultures represent a viable and sustainable method to produce secondary metabolites, despite the existing challenges.
