Crop productivity is constantly challenged by a changing environment. To feed the growing global population, there is a requirement to increase crop productivity. Initially, this was achieved through uncontrolled application of chemicals in the fields, but over time this has become ineffective and is responsible for pollution and loss of biodiversity. To meet the needs of the growing population, exponential urbanization and industrialization are occurring, which use our farming lands and are responsible for various types of abiotic stress on crop production as well as limiting available croplands. To enhance crop productivity without harming the ecosystem, utilizing plant-specific and environment-specific symbiotic endophytic fungi is one of the best tools. These fungi possess a variety of bioactive metabolites that not only help plants develop tolerance against abiotic and biotic stress but also increase plant biomass and productivity in an eco-friendly manner.
